Personalizations

Personalization allows you to tailor your website’s experience for specific audiences. While A/B testing helps you find the best version for everyone, Personalization ensures that the right visitor sees the right content based on who they are and how they browse.

How Personalization Works

Instead of randomly splitting traffic between variants, Personalization uses Audience Rules to determine which version of a page a visitor should see.

For example, you can show a "Free Shipping" banner only to returning visitors from a specific country, while new visitors see a standard "Welcome" message.

1. Create a New Personalization

To get started, navigate to the Personalization tab in your Optibase sidebar and click Create New.

Basic Info

Give your personalization a clear name that describes the use case (e.g., "Mobile Promo - California Users"). This name is internal and helps you identify the experiment in your analytics.

2. Set Up Audience Rules

The core of personalization is defining who sees the tailored content. You can combine multiple rules to create highly specific segments.

Available audience conditions include:

  • Location: Target visitors by country, region, or city.

  • Device & Tech: Filter by browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.), operating system (iOS, Windows), and screen size (Mobile vs. Desktop).

  • User Behavior: Target "New" vs. "Returning" visitors.

  • Referrer: Show content based on where the user came from (e.g., a specific UTM campaign or social media site).

3. Assign Variants

Once your audience is defined, you will connect your design variants:

  1. Default Variant: This is the "Control" version shown to everyone who does not meet your audience rules.

  2. Personalized Variant: This is the tailored experience shown only to the specific audience you defined in Step 2.

After connecting your variants and setting your goals (conversions), click Start Personalization.

The Optibase script will now automatically:

  1. Identify the visitor's attributes (location, device, etc.).

  2. Check if they match your Audience Rules.

  3. Instantly serve the correct variant without any "flickering" or layout shifts.

Best Practices

  • Start Simple: Begin with broad personalizations like "Mobile vs. Desktop" before moving into complex geographic or behavioral rules.

  • Monitor Analytics: Even though this isn't a traditional A/B test, Optibase still tracks conversions for each personalized segment so you can measure the impact of your tailored content.
